The TET Tale: Why, How & Where

 We’re thrilled to share our adventure as we explore Vietnam—a country rich in culture, vibrant traditions, and unforgettable flavors. This blog is our travel diary, a space where we celebrate our love for travel, food, coffee, and new experiences. Here’s a little background on why we chose Vietnam, how we planned our trip, and where our journey took us.

Why Vietnam?

My wife and I have always had a passion for travel, and our shared adventures have been a huge part of our relationship. After knowing each other for over two years, we decided to tie the knot on January 31, 2024. To celebrate our first year anniversary in a memorable way, we wanted to go somewhere special—outside of India.
When brainstorming destinations, my wife suggested Vietnam, a place that perfectly matched our interests. We were drawn by:

  • TET Celebrations:
    Experiencing TET, the Vietnamese celebration of the Lunar New Year, was a unique cultural highlight we couldn’t miss. It felt like the perfect way to immerse ourselves in local traditions during a festive time.

  • Cultural and Culinary Delights:
    As self-proclaimed foodies and coffee lovers, we were excited to dive into Vietnam’s diverse culinary scene and vibrant coffee culture.

  • An Open-Hearted Adventure:
    With a deep appreciation for exploring new cultures and traditions, Vietnam offered a rich tapestry of experiences—from bustling cities to serene countryside views.

How We Made It Happen

Our 10-day adventure was meticulously planned to make the most out of our TET holiday trip, running from January 24 to February 1. Here’s a glimpse into how we crafted our perfect itinerary:

  • Inspiration & Planning:
    We turned to Instagram, YouTube, Google, and even ChatGPT to gather ideas and tips. Every bit of advice helped us piece together an itinerary that balanced must-see attractions with hidden gems.

  • City Hopping:
    Our route was designed to cover three major cities that showcase Vietnam’s diverse charm:

    • Ho Chi Minh City: The energetic, bustling southern hub.
    • Da Nang: A vibrant city with a blend of modernity and tradition.
    • Hanoi: The cultural and historical heart of the country.

  • Flexibility & Adventure:
    While we had a structured plan, we also left room for spontaneous adventures and discoveries. This approach allowed us to truly savor every moment of our journey.

Where We Explored

Our travels took us through three dynamic cities, each with its own unique vibe:

  • Ho Chi Minh City:
    We started our journey in this lively metropolis, where modern energy meets historical charm. From street food adventures to the bustling markets, every corner of the city offered a new experience.

  • Da Nang:
    Our visit to Da Nang was filled with breathtaking coastal views, vibrant local culture, and a perfect blend of relaxation and excitement. It was a delightful mix of urban life and nature’s beauty.

  • Hanoi:
    The final leg of our trip was spent in Hanoi, a city steeped in history and tradition. Wandering through its ancient streets and enjoying its rich culinary scene made us feel like we were stepping back in time.

Jan 30 – Hanoi Day 1: A Hectic Start & Nighttime Hopes

 We kicked off our day in Hanoi by grabbing some Vietnamese Dong and renting a motorbike (apparently, bikes were in short supply because of TET). With our rides sorted, we started the morning with a strong cup of local coffee before heading to Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple. The pace was hectic, and the chilly temperature wasn’t doing us any favors. After a rushed tour of the city, we made our way to Train Street—a spot everyone raves about. We ended up spending around three hours there, but to be honest, the train was late and the experience fell a bit short of the hype. Despite the slower start, we’re holding onto the excitement for the night, which promises to be something truly special in Hanoi. Da Nang – Day 2: Golden Bridge Adventure

We kicked off Day 2 in Da Nang with an early wake-up call at around 5 AM. After a hearty breakfast at our hotel—boasting over 20 buffet options that left our taste buds dancing—we were all set for our long-awaited Golden Bridge experience. Despite the chill in the air (temperatures below 15°C), our spirits were high as our guide took us first to a fascinating Stone Museum. Soon after, we headed over to the iconic Golden Bridge. The journey itself was an adventure: we took cable cars that offered a totally different perspective of the landscape, and by the time we wrapped up around 5 PM, our ears were a bit numb from the high altitude! The day wasn’t just about breathtaking views—the local Vietnamese cuisine was a delight too. With more than 100 variety options available, every meal was a delicious exploration of flavors that we absolutely loved. Stay tuned as we share more of our Da Nang adventures!
